Manchester United has officially signed striker Benjamin Sesco from RB Leipzig on a five-year contract, the club announced on Saturday.

According to ESPN, the transfer fee is estimated to be around €85 million ($98.8 million) including potential add-ons, which Leipzig believes are attainable. The deal also features a sell-on clause, allowing Leipzig to receive a percentage of any future transfer fees. Additionally, the clubs plan to organize friendly matches in the future.

“Manchester United’s history is truly remarkable, but I’m really enthusiastic about what lies ahead,” said Sesco.

“During our discussions, it became evident that this team has everything needed to develop further and quickly compete for major trophies again.

“From the moment I stepped into the club, I sensed the positive energy and familial atmosphere, which is the ideal environment for me to reach my full potential and meet all my goals.

“I’m eager to start learning from Reuben (Amorim), bond with my teammates, and achieve success together.”

United faced competition from Newcastle United in their pursuit of the highly sought-after Slovenia international.

ESPN sources indicated that Newcastle had made several offers for Sesco; however, his preference was to join Manchester United.

The signing of Sesco follows the arrivals of Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, contributing to United’s spending exceeding the £2 million mark this summer. He is expected to spearhead the attack in Ruben Amorim’s revamped squad.

Last season, Sesco scored 21 goals in 45 appearances for Leipzig after a successful spell at RB Salzburg before his transfer to Germany in 2023.

Fan Take: This signing is a significant moment for soccer fans, as Sesco brings youthful energy and potential to Manchester United’s forward line. His arrival may signal a turning point for the club, reigniting their quest for glory and drawing in fans eager for a return to their winning ways.
