Last month, we began exploring current Florida Panthers players who might eventually have their jersey numbers retired by the team. Our initial focus was on some of the most recognizable figures, including Panthers captain Sasha Barkov, a lifelong Panther, and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who was instrumental in leading the team to consecutive Stanley Cup finals and back-to-back championship wins.
Now, let’s turn our attention to players who have made a significant impact since joining the Panthers in the summer of 2021. Florida brought in Sam Reinhart during the 2021 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick and goaltending prospect Devon Levi. Over his four seasons with the Panthers, Reinhart has established himself as a top NHL scorer and earned a reputation as one of the league’s best two-way forwards. He has totaled 160 goals and 324 points in 321 regular season games wearing the Panthers jersey.
Reinhart’s standout 57-goal season was a key contribution to the Panthers’ first Stanley Cup victory, and he earned his first NHL All-Star Game selection that same year. Throughout his time in South Florida, Reinhart has been a strong contender for the Frank J. Selke Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL’s best defensive forward. While his linemate Barkov won the Selke in the past two seasons, Reinhart’s defensive skills continue to gain recognition. He finished fourth in the Selke voting in 2023-24 and secured second place last season.
At 29, Reinhart shows no signs of slowing down. He’s under contract with the Panthers through 2032 on a team-friendly deal worth $8.625 million per year. Surrounded by a talented group of teammates, Reinhart and the Panthers look poised to meet or exceed the high standards they’ve set in recent years. The numbers suggest that as Reinhart enters his 30s, he still has a significant role to play, and it’s quite possible he could see his No. 13 jersey retired by the Panthers one day.
