Justin Rose birded four of his final five holes and defeated JJ Spaun by sinking a putt who won the third playoff hole.

PGA Tour

Robert Macintyre probably didn’t want to finish round one.

They will try to maintain momentum in Round 2 on Friday after finishing the opening round of the BMW Championship with six consecutive birdies to win a three-shot lead at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, MacIntyre.

The FedEx Cup playoffs will be in the second leg this weekend, with MacIntyre becoming the target of the event’s 48 other challengers. The closest on the leaderboard was Tommy Fleetwood (-5), who birded the final hole on Thursday, moving within three shots of McIntyre (-8). Tournament’s favorite Scotty Scheffler sits in third place with a 4-under par.
