Liverpool and Bournemouth began their new Premier League season at Anfield, but before kickoff, tribute was paid to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva after their tragic passing.
This is the first competitive fixture at Anfield that Liverpool has played since Jota’s passing, and the tribute is planned. And they took place before the kickoff, initially being an emotional production of the club’s famous national anthem. You don’t walk alone.
Liverpool supporters send a message to Diogo Jota’s family
During this time, numerous banners appeared on the edge of the KOP, one of them sending a message to Jota’s family. His wife Root and his children were present at Anfield, and the message of Liverpool supporters was clear: Root, Dinis, Duarte, Mafalda – Anfield is always your home. you’ll never walk alone.
This was followed by a silence for a minute. At that point, I was seeing DJ20 and AS30. This is related to the shirt numbers worn by the two brothers in the 2024-25 season at each club.
Naturally, there would have been many emotional feelings in Liverpool in the summer after Jota’s tragic death, and many tears would have been to Anfield in these respects. Arne Slot and his players would have felt that too, but their attention would have been to head straight to Bournemouth.
Liverpool hopes to pay even more respect to Jota and Silva by securing a victory over Bournemouth. After making many famous signatures this summer, including Florian Wiltz, Jeremy Fripon and Hugo Echicicke, there was a lot of pressure on the reigning champions to protect their crown, with the latest additions being confirmed to have Giovanni Leone’s arrival from Parma before the club kicked off.
