Sunderland and Burnley have had contrasting summer transfer windows up until now, but will face off head-on for a signature that will allow them to decide which clubs will avoid being relegated from the Premier League this season.
Sunderland is very impressive and has signed many. And the atmosphere continued as they beat West Ham 3-0 at the Stadium of Light in the first game of the new season. They had already signed two new centre-backs to Paris Saint-Germain and Getafe’s Nordi Mukiere and Omar Alderete, the other was able to follow them straight away.
Sunderland and Burnley are competing to sign Gabriel Pereira
According to TeamTalk, Sunderland and Burnley are interested in FC Copenhagen centre-back Gabriel Pereira who played against Chelsea in the UEFA Conference League Round of 16 Tie last season. The 25-year-old has attracted strong interest from many clubs across Europe, but the appeal of the Premier League could mean that one of the two newly declared clubs is best to sign him.
However, Sunderland and Burnley will make it extremely difficult to sign Pereira this summer. This is because they are paying attention to the defenders wanting to stay in FC Copenhagen for the time being. He is comfortable in Denmark and plays European football regularly.
Missing Pereira would certainly be a much more blow to Burnley compared to Sunderland, considering the transfer business of each of the two clubs. It appears they both have to move on from this situation, but they could revisit in the next 12 months.
