  • Spurs are trying to bolster their fullback options despite the update of Spence
  • “Fantastic” Lewis was able to challenge the Polo start spot

Reports say Tottenham Hotspur has now contacted the “fantastic” defender club directly to assess potential deals.

Spurs are trying to bolster their fullback options despite the update of Spence

Tottenham has the freedom to use Thomas Frank’s destiny Udogie at his left back and Pedro Polo at his other side, but DJed Spence can play on either side.

Despite a rocky start to his Spurs career, Spence is now doing enough to win a new long-term contract, and the fullback admits he is happy to extend his stay in North London.

That said, given Spence has been featured primarily on the left recently, Frank wants to bring in another fullback to offer a polo competition on the right, with Manchester City’s Ricor Luis recently identified as a potential option.

Last week, the broker contacted Lily White over a potential deal, and Frank’s side came into direct contact with Man City to strengthen their interest.

This is a report from catchoffside that says Tottenham is submitting an investigation to the city about Lewis, with many rival Premier League clubs keen on it.

In fact, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest all approach people as young as 20, with tricky trees even submitting offers worth 30 million euros (£26 million) knocked back by the blues.

That said, it is still unclear whether the deal is possible recently, saying that Pep Guardiola wants to protect the youth. “I think he’ll stay. He told me, but he said maybe tomorrow, after tomorrow, that’s going to change.”

“Fantastic” Lewis was able to challenge the Polo start spot

Once praised as “fantastic” by Guardiola, the English Starlet was able to repay the manager’s faith by establishing himself as a key player in the city, making 28 appearances in the Premier League in the 2024-25 campaign.

Meanwhile, the buried defender showed off his versatility, appearing both in left back and mid-center, but right back is a favorable position for England International in the five innings.

So, Lewis is likely brought as a direct competitor for Polo, and considering Pep says he is the “best” player he has trained, he could rob the Spaniard in the long term.

That said, given Polo has been better than him in both offensive and defensive senses over the past year, it’s difficult for the fullback to drive away the 25-year-old Tottenham Start XI.
