How often do Rider Cups play?

The Ryder Cup is performed every two years, alternating between US and European courses.

What is the Rider Cup format?

The Ryder Cup is a three-day match play contest. The first two days feature competition in which players compete as pairs in two different formats: foursome and four balls. On the final day there will be a 12 head-to-head singles match.

In Foursome, players alternate shots. The lowest score will earn the hole. If the score is the same, the hole is dominated by the tie. With four balls, all golfers play their ball. Anyone who scores the lowest individual score wins the hole. If the two lowest scores are the same, the hole is dominated by the tie.

In singles matches from 12 heads, the lowest score will earn the hole. If the score is the same, the hole is dominated by the tie.

The three days consisted of a total of 28 matches. Each match deserves a single point. If a tie occurs, each team receives half the points. The first team with a total of 14 points will win. There are no extra holes in the Ryder Cup match. If the overall match ends with a 14-14 tie, the Rying Ryder Cup Champion will hold the trophy.
