NEW YORK – The man who stole tennis player Kamil Pojaczak’s hat from a young fan at the US Open has apologized on social media and said he returned it.
Piotr Szczerek posted an apology on social media on Monday after the incident went viral over the weekend. On the broadcast, the player’s singles were shown to szczerek grab Majrzak’s hat from the boy after a match with Karen Khachanov.
Szczerek, from Poland, wrote on Facebook that Majchrzak made a mistake thinking he had worn a hat on his sons. In the post he said he personally apologized.
Majchrzak said on social media that he would reach out to the boy’s family, meet him, give him a new hat and take a photo. The 29-year-old from Poland has retired from Saturday’s match due to an unreleased injury.
