England International’s full-back benchilwell has signed a two-year contract after leaving Chelsea, as confirmed on the club’s official website, and officially completed his move to League 1 side Strasbourg.
The French club confirmed the move late Monday evening, but financial details on the contract remain private.
Chilwell, now 28 years old, will bring him a wealth of experience in the Premier League and Europe, who have been part of Chelsea’s team since 2020.
During his first season at Stamford Bridge, he established himself as a reliable left-back, contributing defensively and offensively.
Chilwell was one of the Champions League’s winning Chelsea side.
His most notable achievements remained one of the high points of his career when he played a key role in the Chelsea Champions League victory campaign under Thomas Tuschel in 2021.
However, the past two years have not been that fruitful for the English defender. Permanent injuries and increasing competition in place gradually restricted his involvement, and last season he managed a single appearance for Chelsea.
In January, Chilwell was loaned to Crystal Palace, where he enjoyed a mini-revival and helped Oliver Grassner side win the FA Cup.
Strasbourg is Chelsea’s sister club
The signature of Strasbourg Chilwell is seen as part of the club’s strategy to strengthen its experienced international talent and teams.
The club is owned by the Blue Co Consortium, which controls Chelsea, and Chilwell is the newest player to travel from Stamford Bridge to Alsace.
In Strasbourg, he will be reunited with a familiar face from the Chelsea academy and senior ranks, playing under British head coach Liam Rosenior.
Chelsea’s deal is now fully circled as a new agreement has been reached with the 24-year-old Euro Giants
