The sinners rule Musetti and move forward to us opening the semi-finals

NEW YORK – Giannik Sinner returned to the US Open semi-finals in his first all-Italian match in the men’s major quarterfinals with Lorenzo Musetti beating 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday night.

The No. 1 seed continues what was an easy title defense and faces No. 25 Felix Auger-Aliasime on Friday.

Thinner is interested in his fifth Grand Slam semi-final, and Friday will reach the finals of all four majors this year. He won 26 consecutive matches in the hard court majors. This includes the past two Australian open titles and his victory in New York a year ago.

“It was a great performance. It was very solid, especially it started very well,” Thinner said.

He needed just two hours on Wednesday – the first set only took 27 minutes – fought all seven breakpoints he faced. He dropped just 38 games in his five games. Since 2020, the men have been second to reach the US Open semi-finals.

Thinner, who won 31 consecutive service games, earned 42 points (91%) of the 46 first service points.

Musetti was about to reach his first US Open semi-finals this year, after reaching far at the French Open and Wimbledon in 2024. However, he got off to a horrible start against his Davis Cup teammates, falling behind 5-0, scoring a total of nine points in the first set.

He began to get more opportunities for thinner’s service as the match continued, but he couldn’t get the break that he could have possibly been able to shake things up.

“We have to take away friendship for the match. When we obviously shake hands, everything is fine,” Sinner said.
