Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim has a clear message to young midfielder Cobby Mineau, claiming that despite his great faith in academy alumni, the midfielder is still far from the finished article.
Amorim’s comments come amid growing debate over Mine’s role in United’s team this season.
Amorim told the media.
“Like a lot of people, he wants to play more. I believe a lot in Cobby, but there are some who think Cobby Mine is already over. I think he can get better. I think he can do a lot of improvements.
Mainoo has barely seen playing time under Amorim this season. The Portuguese manager has revealed this season that he prefers other midfield options and that the youngsters are fighting for club captain Bruno Fernandez for a team location.
The only start that Mainoo made this season was with the Carabao Cup with Grimsby. This is the match in which the Red Devils lost in a penalty against League Two.
Rio Ferdinand described him as “a player who doesn’t care about opportunities,” but Keene emphasized his maturity and said that Mein has a “veteran professional temperament.”
Reuben Amorim wants more from Man United Star Mine
But Amorim’s words emphasize the balancing act of managing such incredible talent.
The Portuguese coach hopes Mainoo will improve his positioning play, adapt to various midfield roles, and improve the game tempo. Mainoo shows the quality he owns, but Amorim believes he can contribute more defensively in 90 minutes and develop greater consistency.
Amorim’s comments should be viewed as a public challenge, not as a criticism. Mainoo is still very young and his rise was a meteor, but his manager wants to ease expectations and push him to another level.
The midfielder has recently linked his move to Real Madrid.
