Former Liverpool and British defender Jamie Carrager has become a critic, but while Liverpool may appear to have the strongest starting XI in the Premier League, Arsenal has suggested this season that it may prove decisive if the title race falls on the wire.
Both teams competed in the Premier League title last season, and Liverpool came out last season.
The Gunners finished second in their third season, this time Mikel Arteta and his team are trying to make that extra distance to end the Premier League title drought.
Under Arne Slot, Liverpool exploded from the block during the 2025-26 Premier League season. After five games, they recorded five wins.
Does Arsenal have a better team than Liverpool?
Arsenal, runner-up last season, strengthened the team with a prominent signature, and Carragher believes their recruitment has given them potential benefits.
Liverpool may lead a more impressive starting XI onto the field, but Arsenal’s overall team depth is strong across multiple positions and could make a difference as the season progresses.
Karager said on Sky Sports:
“I think the Whartz coming to Isaac is not yet fully established. He’s right about Ekitique’s abilities. He’s off to a great start. But Roy mentioned there the Arsenal team.
“I think Liverpool may have scored the best team. I think they’re picking the best 11. But in terms of Squad, I think Arsenal’s team is great.
Jamie Carrager may have a point
Carragher may have fair points about Arsenal’s chances of winning the league this season.
They have a strong team, especially when it comes to wide positions.
Merseyside Club may have good options when it comes to players like Starter, Mohamed Sarah and Kody Gakupo, but the bench is weak.
Meanwhile, the gunners include Everece Ezeche, Leandro Torosad, Bukayoshise and Noni Maduce.
But one thing the Reds have is the most important thing.
