Rory McIlroy’s promise of the Ryder Cup tells the story on Beth Page Black

Two years ago, after Europe dominated America in the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone, Rory McIlroy sat confidently on Days to provide predictions that have resonated in the world of golf since leaving Italy’s lips.

“I said this to people who listened to it for probably six or seven years. I think one of the biggest achievements in golf right now is winning the Away Rider Cup. That’s what we’re trying to do with Beth Page.”

The Northern Irish laid another marker earlier this season when he outlined the remaining goals he wanted to achieve in his career.

McIlroy checked out his first in April with a historic victory at Augusta National. The expected postmaster mal laziness continued as McIlroy was looking for motivation to climb another mountain after he finally made his Everest the pinnacle. However, McIlroy found himself once again in the Open Championship at the Royal Portrush, and his victory at the Amgen Irish Open reminded him of something he has said for a while.

McIlroy once saw the Ryder Cup as nothing more than an exhibition, but the biennial event is rooted in the spirit of golf as he matured and grew to understand the importance of the event. So it’s no surprise that Paul McGinley, the strategic adviser to European Captain Luke Donald at next week’s Ryder Cup, saw McIlroy locked on the team’s recent scouting trip to Beth Page Black.

“Rolly enjoyed her last two and a half days,” McGinley said during this week’s conference call. “He was getting taller. He was around guys, cracked, joking, one of the guys. Rory McIlroy, not everyone’s the mega superstar who portrays his time. No one was portraying his time. You couldn’t see how much he liked in that environment. In golf, it’s about winning the away rider cup.”

McIlroy has not retreated from his prediction that Europe will win at Bethpage Black. In a motivational video sent to the Walker Cup teams in the UK and Ireland, McIlroy ended it with a promise to bring the Cup back to Europe after a three-day duel at “The People’s Country Club.”

“As someone who played the Walker Cup and couldn’t do it perfectly, and now they can play the Ryder Cup and defeat the Yanks in their own backyard. “We know we’ll beat them on Beth Page, so beat them.”

McIlroy also took part in the Cup festivities before Liner when he captured Bryson Dedanbeau Guardian’s Ewen Murray. Murray asked about his plan to “chirp” him about Deccanbo’s plan if the two face off on Beth Page.

“I think the only way he gets attention is to mention other people. That’s basically what I think. To get attention, he mentions me, Scotty (Schaeffler) or others,” McIlroy said. Guardian.

This brings us back to McIlroy’s pledge to beat Americans on Beth Page Black two years ago. This is a clip that American Captain Keegan Bradley showed to his team as a motivating tool. It could be called a message board material for Americans, but bringing out the best in McIlroy could become a European weapon.

McGinley knows McIlroy well and has seen his stars rise over the past 20 years. He knows that when Rory McIlroy really wants something, the best version of Rory McIlroy usually arrives. Given all that McIlroy said about the possibility that McIlroy would win at Bethpage, McGinley believes Europe is planning to pull it out of McIlroy of Bethpage Black.

“About Rory, he’s always been a shaky performer,” McGinley said. “Rolly’s success and Rory’s career were never straight. You could look into it. There were lots of dips in his career. When he won the major championship, he did a lot of dips into his career. And he’s back. Style.

“Rolly’s character is coming and going. He thrives, he looks invincible, then he looks like he misses the cut. But he comes back again. Then he comes back again. One thing you can always say about Rory. He’s the last two and a half days, he’ll be ready.”

As for that declaration at the end of the 2023 Ryder Cup, McIlroy is now feeling even better about it than he is now.

“I might be more confident than I was back then,” McIlroy told Murray at the 2025 Tour Championships in East Lake. “Obviously I said in the euphoria of winning the Ryder Cup, but I think it’s all that’s happened since. In the way our team is on track, Luke agreed to be captain again, and has led to this event in particular, despite the fact that the team is in European form this year.

“I think we’re in a better place when compared to the last two Away Rider Cups I’ve played. I still believe we’re underdogs, but I feel more confident than in 2016 and 2021.”

Rory McIlroy’s Post Rider Cup words may come back to bite him next week at Bethpage Black. Or maybe he’ll end his year the way McIlroy began his year. By summoning the best games of his game and adding another line to his Hall of Fame resume, solidifying the promise of the Ryder Cup as part of his lore.

In any case, McIlroy’s words will tell the story of a victorious European upset or another home victory for the Americans.
