Manchester United’s Rocky Start into the 2025-26 season has escalated speculation over the future of manager Ruben Amorim.
Portuguese coaches still order support within the club’s hierarchy, but have emerged about alternatives that can whisper if things don’t improve.
One frequently mentioned name is Oliver Glasner, who is currently at the helm of Crystal Palace.
However, despite praise for the Austrians, insiders make it clear that United have not yet decided on Amorim’s future.
From Oliver Glasner to Mann United?
Glasner’s shares have risen sharply in recent months. Since arriving at the palace in February 2024, he has led them to historic successes, including their first FA Cup victory and Community Shield victory.
His management qualification is based on solid tactical work, the ability to make the most of his loser team, and the ability to achieve results beyond expectations.
Former scout Mick Brown claims that Glasner may have taken the palace as much as he could, and he now can be seduced to join the Red Devils, replacing Amorim.
Brown told the soccer insider:
“Glasner knows what kind of support he can get in January and in summer. If that doesn’t reach the level he demands, he might think he’s taken the palace as much as he can, but without the support from the board, what can he do?
“And if a man has come together or someone like that comes, he may be seduced to make that move.
“Most of that depends on whether the palace is prepared to support him, take some risks and show him that he can fit his ambitions in the future.”
Reuben Amorim faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford
At United, certain board members, including minority shareholder Ir Jim Ratcliffe, reportedly appreciate what Glasner is doing at Selhurst Park.
The expectations at United’s height clubs are intense, and patience is short-lived. If the outcome continues, the club may feel forced to act on Amorim’s replacement.
The fact that Glasner’s name is already under consideration provides a possible fallback plan, but it must be carried out with caution given the size of United’s work and the risks of a midseason transition.
