Manchester United’s turbulent start to the 2025/26 campaign has already raised questions about Ruben Amorim’s future at Old Trafford.
After a massive summer investment, it was expected that Portuguese tacticians would deliver both results and performance.
Instead, their season went on a new low when United found themselves in two Premier League victories so far, and was dumped from the Carabao Cup by League 2 side Grimsby Town.
Naturally, one of the names that has been gaining attention, with speculation about a possible successor beginning to be found, is Oliver Glasner, who is currently in charge of Crystal Palace.
Man United has not contacted Oliver Glasner
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, United has yet to take steps to contact Glasner despite being praised for Austrian work at Selhurst Park.
Jacobs revealed to Givemesport that Glasner is respected by influential figures including minority shareholder Jim Ratcliffe, but he had no formal approach, finalists, or succession plans.
He suggests this is a clear indication that Amorim is still supporting the board, at least in the short term.
He said:
“There is certainly appreciation for names like Oliver Glasner, but the indication that Amorim is still in favor is that there was no outreach yet. There were no candidates yet. As far as I know, there were no serial plans yet.
“Manchester United wants to try and get it to work with Reuben Amorim, so at least if some of these other names don’t go out according to Amorim’s plans, he could probably get a few more games before some of the other names get a little more serious.”
Reuben Amorim still has club support
He supports the hierarchy at the club, but only continues if he has the results this season.
United’s goal this season is to return to European competition, preferably the Champions League, and if Amorim can do that, his job is safe at the club.
With the Premier League’s competitiveness level increasing over the past few seasons, Amorim and his team have the mountain to climb to achieve their goals this season.
With his high reputation and success at Crystal Palace, Glasner will be in the background as a potential successor if United’s struggle continues.
