Manchester United are targeting a new manager who defeated the Red Devils in three different clubs to replace Reuben Amorim.
Amorim still puts pressure on winning the 50th Man UTD game
The current Man UTD manager recorded a much needed 2-0 Premier League victory in the previous Sunderland before his international break in his 50th match in charge of the club.
Although Amorim’s first full season at Old Trafford hadn’t been planned so far, goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesco eased the pressure and lifted United to the top half.
As Amorim is still under great pressure at Old Trafford, he is the first Red Devils manager to win the 50th game since ir Alex Ferguson. That’s what he said, according to former defender Gary Neville:
“There were too many defeats, the records were so poor that I don’t think anyone would celebrate tonight at Manchester United, but I think they’ll be relieved to see a victory that brings a bit of peace to the international break.
“Manchester United wins a strange game, but that’s not enough. I don’t think anyone will be kidnapped by the fact that Manchester United defeated Sunderland at home. The fact that the game is probably a problem in itself is probably a problem.”
Many managers are linked to the successors of Manchester Amorim, including former England boss Gareth Southgate, who has a good relationship with Ineo.
Former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez also looks to Old Trafford’s position, but it looks like Man Utd has another name on the radar.
Aston Villa Manager’s Man UTD Target Movement
According to a report from Spain, Man UTD has targeted Aston Villa boss Unai Emery as his replacement for Amorim.
“Emery appears to be a favorite among people considering a possible exchange,” it said.
The 53-year-old, playing the 4-2-3-1 system, has his own issues in 2025/26, playing four games without a Premier League goal at the start of the campaign.
Villa then won the final four games in all competitions, and Emery actually beat Man UTD alongside Villarreal, Arsenal and Aston Villa in his career.
Unai Emery’s victory over Man Utd | date |
---|---|
Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd | March 10, 2019 |
Villarreal 1-1 Man UTD (12-11 pen) | May 26, 2021 |
Aston Villa 3-1 Man Utd | November 6, 2022 |
Four-time Europa League winner Emery aims to make five at Aston Villa this season, but in the looks of things, if Ineos decides to pull the plug over the next few months, he can be on the Man UTD’s nominee list to replace Amorim.
