Leeds United have been linked with a move for Gustavo Hamel in the past, and interest in the player could be reignited in January.
According to Football Insider, they are definitely interested in the 28-year-old Dutch midfielder and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to sign him in the coming weeks. They could use more quality and depth in the middle of the park and Hammer would be an ideal signing.
He has shown his quality at Sheffield United in the Championship and the opportunity to move to the Premier League could be very exciting for him. Leeds were also rumored to be signing the Hammers in the summer.
Leeds could use Gustavo Hammer
Leeds have had a poor start to the season, but will be hoping to bounce back strongly in the second half of the season. They need quality players to get their season back on track. Signing the 28-year-old midfielder could be ideal. He will add goals and creativity to the team. Hammer scored 10 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions last season.
Manager Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider:
“He’s a top player, one of the best players in the Championship. He’s been on the radar of Leeds for some time. He’s been on the radar of Leeds.”
“It remains to be seen whether Leeds are prepared to spend the big bucks that Sheffield United would demand for Hammer.
“Yes, he is someone Leeds have had their eye on in the past.
“I don’t think he’s at the top of their priority list at the moment. There are probably other players ahead of him, but if he doesn’t move in January there will definitely be clubs looking at him next summer.”
Can Leeds sign Hammer?
It will be interesting to see if Leeds make a contract offer for the player in the coming weeks. We need more depth in the middle of the park. Ideally, they should aim to further improve their quality in the final third as well.
Leeds, on the other hand, may have to pay a premium to get the deal done, as the Blades don’t want to lose key players midway through the season.
