US GP will remain at COTA until 2034

F1 has announced a contract extension for the American Grand Prix, with the race to be held at the Circuit of the Americas until at least the end of 2034.

The Austin, Texas, circuit has been home to racing since 2012, providing F1 with a permanent venue after five years without a US Grand Prix. The current contract was scheduled to expire in the 2026 edition, but the contract extension will keep COTA on the calendar for an additional eight years.

“Since 2012, the momentum and popularity of the United States Grand Prix has continued to grow. We would like to thank the City of Austin and Travis County for hosting us,” said F1 CEO and President Stefano Domenicali.

“Each year, events at the Circuit of the Americas stand out as true highlights for fans, drivers and teams alike, with hundreds of thousands of passionate supporters gathering to witness the thrilling on-track action and soak up the vibrant energy of the circuit and city.

“As F1 continues to grow and thrive in the United States, we are proud to expand our partnership with Bobby Epstein and the great team in Austin, as well as Governor (Greg) Abbott, who has shown leadership in supporting the development of the sport in Texas and beyond. Both have shown an unwavering commitment to F1, and their shared vision and investment played a key role in establishing the strong foundation we now enjoy in the United States.”

Austin remains one of the most-attended races of the season, with attendance expected to well exceed 400,000 this year, and despite the recent additions of races in Miami and Las Vegas.

They estimate that the race has generated $7 billion in economic impact for Austin and the state of Texas since 2012, and that the 2023 race alone has generated more than $1 billion in direct and indirect spending.

COTA Chairman Bobby Epstein said: “We are delighted that F1 has found a home in Texas and are grateful to the fans, teams and entire F1 community for consistently supporting us and making the United States Grand Prix a favorite venue on the world calendar.” “Equally, we are proud and grateful to the people of Central Texas for being so welcoming.

“With this agreement, COTA will overtake Watkins Glen as the longest-running F1 circuit in the United States. Thanks to our tremendous support and incredible host city, the United States Grand Prix has grown to become one of the largest single-weekend sporting events in the world, delivering unparalleled annual economic impact.”

The COTA renewal follows a long-term extension in Miami, and earlier this year it was confirmed that the race in Florida will be included on the F1 calendar until 2041.
