Medical experts have provided an update on Ryan Grabenbirch’s injury status as Liverpool look to return to winning ways for the first time in four games as they take on Eintracht Frankfurt.
Carragher talks about fresh comparisons with Man City amid Liverpool’s strong performance
Liverpool dominated last season, shocking other teams in the Premier League by winning the title in their first year under new manager Arne Slott. Anfield officials were quick to reward Slott for such an impressive debut, with concerns that he would be completely eliminated without manager Jurgen Klopp being put to rest.
In an unprecedented summer for the Reds, they spent around £400m and broke transfer records twice, bringing in the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike. In terms of transfers, Liverpool could not have asked for more.
But just a few months later, Slott is left wondering why his super team have just lost their fourth straight game against Manchester United at Anfield. This is the toughest period of the Dutchman’s reign so far, and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has given his verdict.
“Last season they felt invincible, but now as soon as someone beats them they lose four in a row. It’s like Manchester City last season. I couldn’t believe they were losing. It’s the same with Liverpool now.”
“They have to get out of this quickly, but we won’t see the best of Liverpool until the second half of the season. There’s a mentality sometimes that Liverpool don’t want to do the dirty work.”
Liverpool must hope to bounce back like Man City did in the second half of last season, but they will have to wait until one player returns from injury to full fitness and starts to find his form again.
Injury expert delivers verdict on Graben Birch
When it rains, it pours down on Liverpool. Last weekend, the Reds watched as Ryan Gravenbirch was sidelined with an injury and suffered a four-game losing streak.
The Dutchman is, along with Virgil van Dijk, arguably the most irreplaceable player in the squad in the slot, but the Anfield outfit must now find a way to do just that.
Injury expert Physio-Scout this week provided insight into Gravenbirch’s ankle sprain, claiming that in the most likely scenario the midfielder would miss up to two weeks of games, but it could be worse.
“Lateral ankle sprains often look worse than they really are if swelling and instability are minimal.” they said. “This is a Grade 1 sprain and he is most likely to return quickly… However, if imaging shows a ligament injury, he can be expected to be out for several weeks.”
ryan graven birch | injury timeline |
|---|---|
grade 1 ankle sprain | Less than 2 weeks (probably) |
grade 2 ankle sprain | 3-4 weeks |
Grade 3/ligament injury | 4-6 weeks or more |
Assuming a Grade 1, the midfielder could return against Real Madrid on November 4 or, in the absolute best case scenario, as early as this weekend against Brentford.
Having been left out of Liverpool’s traveling squad and already ruled out for the game against Frankfurt, it is imperative that Liverpool get Grafenberg back into the squad as soon as possible.
