West Ham United lost 2-1 to Leeds United in the Premier League today.
Coach Nuno Espirito Santo has not been able to get the best out of his players, and his selection has also been questioned.
West Ham legend Tony Cottee has revealed that the club are in deep crisis after the start of the season. Last season they were fighting for relegation, but so far nothing has changed. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain his safety in the Premier League this season as well.
They have quality players at their disposal, but they have not been able to perform at a high level.
Meanwhile, Cottee also questions the manager’s decision to leave Callum Wilson out. West Ham clearly have no faith in the former Newcastle striker despite signing him on a free transfer. Cotty feels he needs to bring in a quality striker in January, but until then he should give Wilson more chances.
West Ham must trust Callum Wilson
“We’re in serious trouble,” Cotty said (h/t Hammers News).
“It was another really poor performance. The starting lineup was meaningless. Play your best players in their best positions.”
“We desperately need a new striker, but Callum Wilson has to at least start the game.”
Wilson might be helpful.
Wilson has proven himself in the Premier League in the past and there is no doubt he can make an immediate impact. He will be desperate to make his mark at West Ham United.
It will be interesting to see if Nuno is willing to give the former Newcastle star further chances in the coming weeks. Wilson was brought on with 25 minutes left in the game due to an injury. But he will want to be on the pitch more so he can show his quality.
