Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Boca Juniors prospect Milton Delgado.
The 20-year-old defensive midfielder has attracted the attention of the London club, with Boca Noticias reporting that his contract has a release clause of 17.2 million euros.
Delgado has also been linked with a move to Manchester United.
Chelsea sign Milton Delgado?
Chelsea certainly have the financial wherewithal to pay it and it will be interesting to see if they decide to move on to the Argentine youth international. The midfielder performed well at the Under-20 World Cup and, with the right guidance, has the potential to develop into a quality player for Chelsea.
They could definitely add to the quality and depth of their squad and the 20-year-old would be a long-term investment. An investment of 17.2 million euros may look like a bargain in the future.
Delgado may consider moving
Chelsea have had success developing young players over the years, which could help Delgado reach his potential. The opportunity to move to England would be a very exciting one for the young midfielder. It will be a step up for him and he will test himself at the highest level.
His development could accelerate if he gets regular playing time in the Premier League. It will be interesting to see whether Chelsea take over their interest and make a formal offer to finalize a deal.
If Chelsea decide to trigger the release clause in the midfielder’s contract, Boca Juniors will be powerless to prevent his departure in January.
It shouldn’t be too difficult for Chelsea to convince the midfielder to join the club. They are one of the biggest clubs in the world and most young players would want to join them. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
