Wolves are considering appointing former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick to replace the recently sacked Vitor Pereira.

The draw against Brighton was the final straw for Pereira and the club decided to sack him on Sunday.

His dismissal comes as no surprise given the club’s lack of form, with two draws and eight losses in the Premier League this season, without a win.

The club are in 20th place with just two points from 10 games and need to find a replacement who can keep them out of the relegation zone and ensure their safety this season.

According to The Athletic, several names are being considered, including former Wolves manager Gary O’Neill.

Having been sacked exactly one year ago, there is a possibility that he could make a surprise return to the club to help pull the club out of its current rock bottom situation.

Other names mentioned in the report include Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards, who made a name for himself with his impressive spell at Luton, and former Middlesbrough manager Carrick.

According to reports, the former Manchester United man has been discussed within the club and remains a potential replacement.

There have been recent rumors of a return to Old Trafford, with reports suggesting Carrick could be tempted by the Manchester United job.

Michael Carrick’s impressive work at Middlesbrough

Michael Carrick retired in 2018 and quickly moved into coaching, serving as Manchester United’s assistant manager under Jose Mourinho and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He was then given the opportunity to manage Man United as interim manager of the club in November 2021 following Solskjaer’s sacking.

Carrick managed three matches and remained unbeaten in all three, with two wins and one draw.

Although Carrick left the club following the arrival of Ralph Rangnick, his success earned him his first permanent role at Middlesbrough and was the starting point for his managerial career.

The 44-year-old took over at a club that was 21st in the Championship and facing the possibility of a relegation battle, and he made an immediate impact, turning the team into an attractive, possession-based side.

Under Carrick, Middlesbrough’s form has improved dramatically, rising from near the bottom of the table and securing a play-off spot by the end of the 2022/2023 season.

His numbers included 18 wins in 30 games, and he showed a remarkable turnaround in average points per game.
