Nicklas Flukrug’s agent has admitted that his contract with West Ham did not work out for his client.
West Ham signed Flukrug from Borussia Dortmund last summer for a fee of £27m, fresh off an impressive season with Borussia Dortmund and Euro 2024.
However, injuries were a major factor in his struggles with the Hammers, and he did not live up to expectations.
Niklas Furkruk’s agent confirms move to West Ham
Furkrug’s agent Torsten Wirth said in a recent podcast interview that the German’s move did not work out and suggested a move from the London Stadium may be necessary.
He told the TOMORROW Business Podcast (via talkSPORT): “Looking back, I have to say the transfer didn’t work out. There’s no point in trying to gloss over the surface.”
“This (leaving West Ham) always has to happen in collaboration with the club, but I believe it makes sense to make some changes there.”
His agent cited recurrent injury issues as the main reason the transfer fell through.
“Time and time again, just when you thought, ‘Here he comes, this time he’s going to prove to England that it’s not a good Euro,’ then nothing happens and another injury happens,” Wirth explained.
“He had a little bit of negative momentum and some bad luck.”
Nicklas Furkruk’s time at West Ham was ruined by injury
Since his high-profile arrival, the 32-year-old forward has missed a whopping 32 games in all competitions due to injury.
In the 27 games he’s been in shape, he’s only scored three goals and provided two assists.
The German’s performances have been criticized, with former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor saying he is not good enough to play for West Ham.
What’s next for Full Krag?
The player’s agent has more or less confirmed that the striker will soon end his nightmare in London, and it will be interesting to see which club signs him from West Ham.
In the summer, there were shocking reports that Real Madrid were keen to sign the former Werder Bremen star.
The most likely destination would be a return to Germany, where there could be a number of suitors keen on the experienced Bundesliga striker.
