  • Federico Chiesa wants more playing time
  • Chiesa’s Liverpool future remains uncertain

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa.

The Italian has had an impressive start to the season with the Reds, often making an impact after coming off the bench.

However, he has found it difficult to get playing time again this season under coach Arne Slott.

The former Juventus player was linked with a move away from Anfield in the summer transfer window, but changed his mind and decided to stay at the club to prove himself.

It hasn’t worked out well for him so far, and although the manager has high praise for the player’s form and effort, it hasn’t translated into playing time.

Federico Chiesa wants more playing time

The slot favors Mohamed Salah and Kodi Gakpo, who can play a wide range of positions, and Chiesa has found it difficult to get playing time despite the club’s recent struggles.

Unless the situation at Liverpool changes, a departure in January could be on the cards, and Romano insists he would not be surprised if the Italian club were looking for a winger back in the January transfer window two months later.

Romano said on the Here We Go podcast:

“The start of the season was strange for Chiesa, because at the beginning of the summer period there were plans to leave, but then everything changed several times due to Arne Slott and the management.

“Federico Chiesa’s desire is to finish the season at Liverpool and assess the situation in the summer. When Chiesa says publicly, “I want to stay here, I want to compete for a place,” that is the reality. Chiesa wants to continue at Liverpool.

“And of course he wants to play and he needs to play. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be surprised if an Italian club comes back and tries to sign Chiesa from Liverpool in January. They might do that. But at the moment, Liverpool and Chiesa’s desire is to continue to work together. I don’t think a January transfer will be easy, but the interest remains so we have to keep an eye on game time over the next two months.”

Chiesa wants to prove himself by playing and hopes to return to the national team under coach Gennaro Gattuso.

With the World Cup looming next year, Chiesa is aiming to break into the Italian squad and will need more playing time at Liverpool in order to do so.

Slott’s management of the Italian winger was not the best. Despite the efforts of the current players this season, Slott was unable to incorporate Chiesa into the team, even though it was the best opportunity to incorporate him into the team.

The Italian has become a fan favorite at Anfield for his impactful performances, but when it comes to his career ambitions, Chiesa is unhappy with his situation at Liverpool.
