Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has been linked with a move away from the club.
According to Alan Nixon, Championship clubs Leicester City and Southampton are interested in securing his loan spell, with Sunderland potentially sanctioning his loan end in January.
Patterson was linked with a move to Tottenham a year ago.
Anthony Patterson needs a move
Patterson is no longer Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper, so it would be ideal for him to move on. At 25 years old, he needs regular opportunities to fulfill his potential. He has come through the ranks at Sunderland and you would have expected him to secure a regular spot at Sunderland.
However, Robin Rufus is currently above him in the standings. It would be ideal for him to leave the club in January so that he can play more often. If he can perform well in the second half of the season, he may have a better chance of grabbing a starting spot next season.
Where will Patterson end up?
Leicester City and Southampton want to do well this season and need quality players. The 25-year-old goalkeeper definitely has the qualities to help the team improve. He has shown his ability in the second tier of English football in the past and could make an immediate impact. The goalkeeper will be desperately trying to regain his past form. His desire to succeed will be a bonus for any club that can secure his contract.
It remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
The club will be hoping to win the race for his signature in January. Signing him on loan would be a no-risk acquisition and a move with huge profit potential.
Sunderland will no doubt be hoping he can perform at a high level with them and be able to sell him for a big fee in the summer.
