ATHENS – Novak Djokovic defeated Lorenzo Musetti 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the Greek Championship final on Saturday to win the 101st title of his career.
The loss ended Musetti’s hopes of qualifying for the final ATP Finals of the season in Turin, Italy, with Felix Auger-Aliassime taking the final spot instead.
The 38-year-old Djokovic won his 72nd title on hard courts, setting the men’s record, one more than Roger Federer.
“It was an unbelievable battle,” Djokovic said. “It was a physically grueling three-hour match. … I’m very proud that I was able to overcome this match.”
In the final set, Djokovic clinched the victory with a service winner after five breaks. Musetti has lost in the past six tour-level finals.
