Arsenal have found their place in the race to sign Malick Fofana, with the winger set to move to Barcelona, according to recent reports.
Despite how well the Gunners have performed so far this season, their left flank remains their biggest weakness. Martinelli’s form remains inconsistent and he remains sidelined, while Leandro Trossard is currently 30 years old and is not a long-term option. After addressing their striker problem by signing Victor Gokeres in the summer, Arsenal must do the same on the left flank.
That said, given that they sit at the top of the Premier League with their excellent defensive performance and set-piece threat, the north Londoners probably won’t have to rush to buy their potential for improvement.
Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland was the first time Arsenal have dropped points in the Premier League since September, and they have not lost in all competitions since August. Everything is finally moving towards major silverware for Mikel Arteta.
In an ideal world for the people at Emirates, Arsenal would have the perfect opportunity to progress towards Premier League glory and then welcome other improvements.
Javi Guerra is already rumored to be on the shortlist for the Champions League, adding yet another talent to La Liga, and he is not the only player on the shortlist.
Recent reports have also suggested Arsenal’s interest in Lyon’s Fofana, who is one of the most sought-after wingers in European football. These same reports even revealed where the Gunners stand in the race to secure his signature.
Fofana’s dreams revealed as Arsenal decide on transfer position
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Arsenal are currently the team most interested in signing Fofana, along with Chelsea, which was a disappointing blow for Barcelona. The Belgian star has made no secret of his desire to make a permanent move to the Premier League, with his agent admitting earlier this year that he was dreaming of a move to Liverpool.
This may seem like a blow for a team like Arsenal, but reports suggest it is the Gunners, not the Reds, who are at the front of the race to sign him. The north Londoners, who have the potential to win the Premier League title, are eyeing every chance to sway Fofana, who has his sights set on English football rather than a move to Barcelona.
Fofana’s agent, Bobo Fofana, said in March: “His heart is with Liverpool. He has the potential to become a regular and above all we want him to be the successor to African legends like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Elhadji Diouf.”
Described as an “explosive” player by Como scout Ben Mattinson, Fofana is a talent Arsenal won’t want to miss out on, especially if they are to hand the title to rivals Liverpool.
