Newcastle express stance on midfielder’s future amid ‘concerns’

Newcastle have had a difficult start to the season as they struggle to maintain consistency in the Premier League. One player who is below average is Joelinton, who continues to form a midfield trio with Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães.

Joelinton was a regular starter at Newcastle, but his place in the team is under pressure with the likes of Lewis Miley and Jacob Ramsey in the running for a starting spot, leading to questions over his future at the club.

However, according to Pete O’Rourke (via Football Insider), Newcastle will not consider selling Joelinton, who scored in midweek’s win over Athletic Club.

“There’s no doubt that Joelinton hasn’t been at his best so far this season. He’s struggled with form and fitness. That’s a bit of a concern, but I don’t think it’s a big problem for Newcastle.”

“I still think he’s a key player in Eddie Howe’s team. He has a very strong partnership with Guimarães and Tonali and he offers something different to both of them. Joelinton has been a bit off, but he’ll be hoping that goal against Athletic Club in the Champions League can be a stepping stone to maybe kicking now.”

“I don’t think they’re going to make a hasty decision about Joelinton and his long-term future, but I still think he has an important role for them. For me, if you have Bruno, Tonali and Joelinton in midfield and they’re all fit and able to play, that’s one of the strongest midfields in the Premier League and even in the Champions League.”

Newcastle will no doubt be hoping Joelinton improves, and if he doesn’t, there could be scope for a sale.
