Crowds normally reserved for the weekend gathered at Pelican Golf Club in Bellaire, Fla., on Wednesday to watch two of the biggest names in women’s sports perform in unison at the Annika Pro-Am. Nellie Korda and Caitlin Clark, who played together for the second year in a row, played nine holes with Clark’s Indiana Fever teammates Lexi Hull and Sophie Cunningham, and served as caddies for part of the match.
“It’s crazy,” Korda said. “The first T-shirt was almost like something out of a book. But it’s so much fun. It’s cool to see how many people she connects to other sports and it’s fun to hang out with her. She’s so cool. We met last week on a field trip and it’s nice to be around great people. Even her teammates are so much fun. It’s been a lot of fun so far.”
Around this time last year, both players participated in pro-am matches together and were very successful. Korda was named LPGA Player of the Year with six wins to that point in the season, and added a seventh with a win at Anika later that week.
Clark was coming off a WNBA Rookie of the Year campaign for the Fever. Although his sophomore season was marred by injuries that sidelined him at various times on both the hardwood and golf courses, the sharpshooter said he is back to 100% health and looking to take advantage of the weather before winter arrives.
“I think this shows how powerful supporting each other really is,” Clark told Golf Channel. “I’ve always been a huge advocate of that and supporting women’s sports. I’ve always been a big fan, whether it’s golf, soccer, volleyball, whatever it is. So it’s really fun to see (Nellie) up close doing her craft and how good she is.”
“I had the pleasure of playing with her last year and I played a few rounds with her, and she makes the game of golf look so easy. It’s like: how? She’s amazing and I’m rooting for her to win this week. ”
Although Korda was in great form in 2025 with eight top-10 finishes in 17 games, he has remained out of the winner’s circle since entering last year’s tournament. She joins Annika having not played since the first week of October, when she finished T4th at the Lotte Championship.
Regardless of her vacation, the world No. 2 is going to have a lot going for her this week, given her comfort level on this golf course and the fact that she’ll be strolling around the golf course with some familiar faces again on Wednesday.
“I think she enjoys everything she does,” Korda said of Clark. “There’s only so much you can juggle. We have so much to do, but it’s cool to see her so laid-back and relaxed and having fun chatting with everyone.”
