  • Scott McTominay is happy with Napoli, but they don’t want to sell
  • Was it a mistake for Man United to let Scott McTominay go?

Manchester United are one of the clubs keeping an eye on Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay, who has been in great form since moving to Serie A.

As first reported here in the Daily Briefing, industry insiders have told me that McTominay has suitors looking to bring him back to the Premier League.

The Scotland international was never a regular star during his time at Manchester United, but Manchester United are now keen to bring him back, with Newcastle United and Tottenham also interested.

Even Barcelona have been mentioned to me as a club with a real concrete interest in the 28-year-old, but it doesn’t necessarily seem likely that he will leave Napoli.

Even if clubs were lining up to sign McTominay, it appears they could need at least €50 million to sign him, but Napoli have not even set an asking price at this point.

“There is concrete interest in Scott McTominay,” one source told me. “Manchester United will bring him back and look to Newcastle and Tottenham. Barcelona also see him as a suitable player for their midfield.”

Still, it seems unlikely that McTominay himself will push for a move, so the club would need to come in with an offer to test Napoli’s resolve and tempt them to cash in.

Was it a mistake for Man United to let Scott McTominay go?

It is increasingly likely that United made the wrong decision when they let McTominay go almost a year ago.

Former MUFC manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously spoken of his sadness at seeing McTominay sold by his former club.

“Scotty is doing well at Napoli. I’m upset that we let him go because he kept scoring goals and was important last season. His mind and knowledge of the culture were important,” the Norwegian told The Athletic earlier this year.
