Despite spending heavily in the summer, Liverpool will need to add further reinforcements to Arne Slott’s squad in 2026. The right-winger hopes to compete with Mohamed Salah, but more pressing is the desire to add a new centre-back, with Marc Guehi remaining the club’s frontrunner.
Liverpool almost signed Guehi in the summer transfer window, but Crystal Palace were unable to secure a replacement and pulled out of the deal in the final stages. This means the England international is almost certain to leave Selhurst Park as a free agent at the end of the season, much to the ears of those at Anfield.
Liverpool recognize interest in Real Madrid’s Marc Gehi
However, Real Madrid are also in the race for Guehi, and Keith Wynes (via Football Insider) says Liverpool should be concerned about the player’s reported desire to move to Merseyside.
“From what I understand, he wants to go to Liverpool, but there will be an auction for him. He will be a sought-after player in January. I think Liverpool are saying, look, wait a minute, we’ll take you if you moderate your demands. I don’t think they’re going to back out. I think they’re still interested in him and he’s a quality player, even though he’s injured right now.”
“However, I don’t think Real Madrid are out of the running for the title. I think there is still a lot of interest.”
Guehi’s situation is bound to escalate further in the coming months, with a number of top clubs across Europe said to be interested in securing his future after he leaves Crystal Palace. Liverpool are right in the thick of it and may be classed as favorites at the moment, but they will need to move quickly to sign players.
