Man United could be busy in January, with rumors abound regarding players signing and potentially leaving. In the latter category, Joshua Zirkzee is the frontrunner, as he is said to be unhappy at Old Trafford.
Zirkzee has struggled to make his mark this season, with the likes of Benjamin Sesco, Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount playing ahead of him in the striker position. As a result, there has been intense speculation about his future, with him likely to leave but potentially remaining until the end of the season.
Joshua Zirkzee could return to Manchester United line-up
According to Football Insider, manager Mick Brown revealed that Zirksee could be given more playing time in the coming weeks depending on how long Sesco is out.
“They are waiting to find out the full extent of the injury that Sesco sustained in the draw against Tottenham at the weekend. If it’s a bad injury, then maybe he opens the door for Zirksee to play regularly under him, because he’s been a bit inconsistent this season.”
“Obviously, if Sesco is sidelined for a significant period of time, that could mean United decide to keep Zirksee and he can play in the wide for longer. If he wants to move, which has been suggested, it could force United to enter the transfer window in January to bring in new options.”
“No decision has been made yet. They want to wait and see how serious the injury is. But if it turns out that Sesco will be out injured for a while, it could be an opportunity for Zirkzee to make his mark in the Manchester United side.”
It remains to be seen what will become of Zirksee, but if Manchester United prevent him from leaving in January, he will have to remain with Ruben Amorim’s team until next summer.
