  • Manchester United are ready to let Joshua Zirkzee leave
  • Zirkzee is attracting interest from Serie A clubs

Manchester United have reportedly taken decisive action regarding Joshua Zirkzee’s departure, with Gazzetta dello Sport revealing that the club are prepared to sanction the Dutch striker’s departure in the upcoming January transfer window.

After months of uncertainty and limited minutes under manager Ruben Amorim, the 24-year-old is seeking a move that would guarantee him regular minutes, crucial to maintaining his ambitions to represent the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup.

Sources in Italy say Manchester United have informed Roma of their intention to let Zirksee leave on a loan deal with an option to buy, a structure that suits both the player’s urgent need for playing time and Roma’s financial strategy.

This marks a marked change in attitude from United, who were reluctant to let go of players they invested heavily in last year.

Zirkzee has struggled for a consistent role this season, trailing Benjamin Sesco and Mateusz Cunha in the top tier.

Despite showing glimpses of his talent in his short playing time, he has not been able to secure a regular spot, leading to frustration and a desire to move on.

Roma have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Zirksee, with negotiations already underway.

United have set their buyout clause at a minimum of €35m (about £30.9m), the same amount Roma would have to pay Everton to secure Evan Ferguson’s permanent loan.

To facilitate Zirkzee’s arrival, Roma are expected to end Ferguson’s loan spell from Brighton, freeing up squad space and budget for the Dutch forward.

In a domino effect, Everton, who still adore Ferguson, are reportedly poised to take the Irish striker on loan for the remainder of the season.

It’s not just Rome. AC Milan, long-time supporters of Zirkzee, will continue to closely monitor his future developments.

The Rossoneri manager had previously attempted to sign the player ahead of his move to Old Trafford, and the player’s situation has sparked renewed interest.

Serie A clubs have taken note of Zirksee’s potential and profile, as he is tall, technically gifted and tactically versatile, making him a particularly attractive option in the Italian market.

However, Roma’s early contact and willingness to rebuild the attack gives them a decisive advantage.

Nothing has been finalized yet, but all parties – United, Roma and Zirksee – appear to be in agreement in principle. The deal is subject to further negotiations regarding the exact structure of the salary compensation and buyout option clauses.
