West Ham are expected to look to make a number of signings in January, and striker is one area they need to work on. The expected departure of Niklas Furkruk means a new number nine is essential, and one of their targets has been in the headlines over the past 48 hours.
Troy Parrott, who was linked with Leeds before the summer transfer window, shot to stardom after scoring a stunning hat-trick against Hungary to send Ireland into the World Cup play-offs. The 23-year-old also scored twice against Portugal last week, and his form could be rewarded with a move to the Premier League.
West Ham are one of the clubs keen to sign Troy Parrott
Parrott has scored 18 goals for club and country this season (13 with AZ Alkmaar and five with Ireland), and his form has attracted the attention of West Ham. Mick Brown has revealed that he is one of the Premier League teams eyeing the former Tottenham striker, according to Football Insider.
“A lot of clubs in the Premier League are looking at Troy Parrott, not just because he scored a hat-trick in Ireland’s big win, but because he’s been playing at a high level for the club more regularly this season. When someone is playing at a high level and scoring regularly, these clubs have to take notice of them and send their scouts out to see them.”
“We’ve been talking about a lot of clubs in the Premier League needing a striker. This player is playing in Europe and seems to be at the top of his game and he’s scoring goals for club and country, so it would be foolish not to take notice. Especially playing in the Dutch league, I know most, if not all, clubs in England are paying attention to what’s going on over there. So, yeah, I’d be very surprised if they didn’t know how he was playing.” ”
Parrott could solve West Ham’s long-standing striker problem
West Ham have long struggled to sign prolific strikers, but Parrott could be the man to end their woes. He has experience in English football, so he should be able to move into the Premier League smoothly.
