Alex Pereira Responds to Tom Aspinall’s UFC 321 Injury; Jon Jones Steps Up to Accept Pereira’s White House Challenge

Alex Pereira has expressed disappointment with the current state of the UFC heavyweight division. Following the anticlimactic conclusion of the Tom Aspinall vs. Cyril Gane match at UFC 321, which ended as a no contest due to an eye poke in the first round, Pereira reminded fans how to reinvigorate heavyweight competition. Before the fight was halted, Gane was excelling as an underdog. Pereira responded by pledging to “make heavyweight great again,” implying a desire to fight Jon Jones at the White House, as hinted by his use of emojis including a stone face, bone, and White House.

Pereira is targeting a potential bout with Jones on next year’s White House fight card, which coincides with the presidential inauguration. Donald Trump had previously announced the fight, scheduled for June 14th after Jones recently reclaimed the light heavyweight title from Magomed Ankalaev. While Pereira is not interested in a rematch with Aspinall, he plans to move up to heavyweight to pursue what he calls a “superfight” against Jones.

However, UFC CEO Dana White seems cautious about Pereira’s jump to heavyweight despite stating there is a “1 billion to 1” chance he would book Jones on the White House card. Jones has also accepted Pereira’s challenge, responding on Twitter with enthusiasm and respect, saying, “Alex, I will bring the highest level of technology to the White House… Thank you for the respect you showed me. Let’s dance.”

Fan Take: This development signals an exciting possible matchup that could redefine the heavyweight division and draw huge mainstream attention to the sport. For fight fans, a Pereira vs. Jones bout isn’t just a superfight—it’s a potential game changer that could elevate the UFC’s profile and competitive landscape.
