Braves Secure Closer Raisel Iglesias and Land Gold Glove Winner Mauricio Dubon in Astros Trade

The Atlanta Braves bolstered their bullpen late Wednesday with two key moves aimed at strengthening their defense. First, they confirmed that closer Raisel Iglesias will remain with the team on a one-year deal worth $16 million. Shortly after, the Braves secured Gold Glove-winning utility player Mauricio Dubon in a trade with the Houston Astros, sending infielder Nick Allen in return.

Retaining Iglesias ensures the Braves keep their reliable closer after three seasons together, as he enters free agency. Despite ranking as the 45th best available player by Yahoo Sports, Iglesias’ recent performance dipped, with a 3.21 ERA and 29 saves in 67 1/3 innings last season, his worst in Atlanta. However, Iglesias showed strong late-season form with a 1.25 ERA in the final 43 1/3 innings, a level of performance Atlanta hopes to see continued in 2026.

Dubon, 31, brings versatile defensive skills, winning his second Gold Glove Award last season while playing multiple positions across the infield and outfield. Over 133 games, he posted a .241/.289/.355 batting line with seven home runs and 33 RBIs. Meanwhile, the Astros received 27-year-old Nick Allen, a promising infielder with Gold Glove finalist credentials but less offensive production.

Fan Take: These moves highlight the Braves’ commitment to shoring up their bullpen and defensive flexibility, which are critical in tight playoff races. Keeping Iglesias and adding Dubon could not only stabilize the team’s late-game scenarios but also provide exciting depth that makes Atlanta an even tougher contender in the coming season.
