Rosie Mouse Steers Mullins to Victory in the Morgiana Showdown

Willie Mullins has selected Rosiemus and Ilansey to represent him in the Unibet Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown this Saturday. Mullins has been dominant in Grade 1 races recently, boasting victories in 13 of the last 14 Morgiana Hurdles.

This year, Mullins has numerous entries. With the double champion Statesman ruled out last week, the undefeated Anzadam has risen as the leading contender on the preliminary list. However, Statesman’s absence from Thursday’s announcement shifted the spotlight to the star filly Rosie Mouse, who has been named the clear favorite by jockey Paul Townend.

Speaking in Thurles, Townend expressed his confidence in Rosie Mouse, calling her a “super sub” and hoping she’ll be strong throughout the season. The talented six-time Grade 1 winner will be joined by stablemate Ilansey, who claimed victory in three of last season’s five races, including a top-level win at Punchestown Festival. Ilansey will now compete beyond novice level for the first time, ridden by Mark Walsh, the exclusive rider for owner JP McManus.

Gordon Elliott, the only trainer to win this race in the past 14 years, is represented by Ndawe this year. Ndawe secured the Galway Hurdle in the summer and recently placed sixth in the Cesarewich at Newmarket. The field is rounded out by David Harry Kelly’s Glen Kiln, a recent course winner, continuing the legacy of the Bow family, famed for Morgiana heroes like Limestone Lad and the legendary mare Solerina.

Fan Take: This news is thrilling for horse racing fans as it highlights the intense competition and impressive talent lined up for the Morgiana Hurdle, a key event in the season. With top trainers and jockeys involved, this race promises high-stakes action that could shape the future landscape of hurdling.
