Cup Champion Kyle Larson Opens Up: Celebrating Kids, Vacation Plans, and Life as a Hockey Dad

Kyle Larson has spent the last several days reveling in his second NASCAR Cup Series championship. His celebrations have been a whirlwind, starting with taking his three kids to the victory stage in his race car, followed by attending the awards ceremony on Tuesday, enjoying a Knicks game in New York on Wednesday, and participating in various photo sessions on Thursday.

After a photo shoot at the Empire State Building, Larson shared thoughts about his children: Owen, who turns 11 in December, Audrey, 7, and Cooper, who is almost 3. He described Owen as a caring big brother to Cooper, though less so to Audrey, and noted that both he and Owen are quite emotional and moved by acts of kindness. Larson recalled fitting all three kids into the race car, a first-time experience for Cooper, who handled it well despite never having been in a car like that before. His wife Caitlin suggested the family all be together for that special moment, which Larson appreciated especially since it was captured on camera.

Larson’s children have been buzzing about his championship win—Owen woke up still amazed by his dad’s success. Reflecting on the celebration, Larson mentioned not wearing goggles during the champagne spray this time, unlike the first time he won, leading to a humorous acknowledgment that goggles would be advisable next time to avoid stingy eyes.

Audrey has lately taken up ice hockey, practicing and scrimmaging twice a week, showing her competitive spirit despite no family history in the sport. Larson’s familiarity with hockey is limited, but he enjoys seeing her learn new things fearlessly. When asked about sports he’d like his kids to play, Larson mentioned golf, noting Owen’s impressive swing, although he himself rarely finds time to play.

Larson also enjoyed his first trip to Madison Square Garden for a Knicks game, where he experienced VIP treatment and enjoyed the atmosphere surrounded by celebrities. Looking ahead, he planned a family trip to Cabo and a parade in his hometown of Elk Grove, California, where he hopes to visit some favorite local spots.

Reflecting on this championship celebration compared to past ones, Larson noted many new team members participated, highlighting the excitement of sharing the champion’s joy with first-timers. While the celebration schedule was different and exhausting, he cherished the opportunity to enjoy the moment before quickly shifting focus to the next racing season.

Bob Pockras, a veteran motorsports journalist, captured Larson’s journey and celebrations, offering this inside look at the champion’s life beyond the race track.

Fan Take: This news highlights not just Larson’s talent on the track but the human side of NASCAR stars—family, personal growth, and balance. For fans, it paints a fuller picture of the sport’s personalities and adds emotional depth, which is crucial for building long-term fan engagement in NASCAR’s evolving landscape.
