The New York Mets and Texas Rangers have reportedly reached a trade agreement, swapping key players between their teams. According to ESPN, the Mets will send outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers in return for second baseman Marcus Semien.

Nimmo, 33, who is under contract through 2030 earning $20.5 million annually, agreed to waive his full no-trade clause to facilitate the move. Semien, on the other hand, is signed through the 2028 season with a seven-year, $175 million contract that began in 2022.

Nimmo, having spent his entire 10-year MLB career with the Mets, played 155 games last season, helping the team to an 83-79 finish, second in the National League East. He posted a slash line of .262/.324/.436 with 154 hits, 92 RBIs, and 25 home runs in 587 at-bats.

Semien, 35, joined the Rangers as a free agent in 2021 and has had a standout four-year tenure that includes a World Series title in 2023. He earned All-Star honors in both 2023 and 2024, was named to the All-MLB First Team in 2023, and won his second Silver Slugger that year. In 2025, Semien posted a .230/.305/.364 slash line with 108 hits, 62 RBIs, and 25 home runs, while also securing his second Gold Glove. The Rangers ended the season third in the National League West with an 81-81 record.

Fan Take: This trade shakes up two competitive rosters and highlights how teams are betting on proven veterans to make a difference. For baseball fans, it signals an exciting shift in team strategies and could have a big impact on the race in both divisions.
