Frank under ‘serious’ pressure for actions after Arsenal defeat

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is under “severe” pressure over comments he made after his side’s 4-1 north London derby defeat to Arsenal.

Tottenham were the underdogs heading into the Emirates Stadium and defeat was always the most likely outcome, but Frank was so dissatisfied with the overall performance that he even apologized to the fans after the match.

The Dane said: “It was a very tough afternoon. It was a poor performance. It hurts a lot to stand here after that game. All I can do is apologize to the fans for the lack of performance. We were very confident that we could be competitive today, but it wasn’t to be.”

The 52-year-old also sought to put things into perspective by reminding fans that Spurs are still a work in progress, having amassed just 38 points in the Premier League during the 2024-25 season.

However, it is safe to say that these comments were not well received and those involved are now claiming that the manager is playing a dangerous game by making such statements in the media…

Football Insider’s Mick Brown told the magazine:At some stage he has to take some responsibility, but he can’t continue to avoid the issue and continue to pass the blame for what happened last season. It has now happened and is over and the focus should be on what they are doing now. ”

Brown added: ”The problem is that he doesn’t want to alienate his fans because that will only increase the pressure on him and the situation could get worse if that happens.

“Obviously after a game like that there are going to be serious questions, but I think he still has time to turn things around. He just needs to focus on the here and now.”

Frank should be given more time to put things right as Spurs currently sit just three points out of the top four, but things must definitely improve after what Jamie O’Hara branded a “disgusting” defeat.

It’s not the first time the north Londoner has seriously struggled to create chances this season, with an xG of just 0.05 against Chelsea earlier this month, the fourth lowest since Premier League records began.

After their Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham will be aiming for their second home league win of the season against Fulham on Saturday, and Frank will be hoping that he will be able to implement a more expansive style of play.
