Natasha Howard’s comeback to the Indiana Fever in 2025 was truly unforgettable. She not only led the team to win the Commissioner’s Cup but also helped them secure a spot in the playoffs and semifinals, despite the absence of Caitlin Clark. Originally drafted fifth overall by the Fever in 2014, Howard put up impressive averages of 11.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in 2025. Her veteran leadership provided the crucial experience Indiana needed to become a legitimate WNBA contender.

In the championship game, Howard delivered a strong performance with 16 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals, earning her the Commissioner’s Cup MVP honors. Currently a free agent, it’s uncertain if she will return to Indiana or explore opportunities elsewhere. Before free agency officially began, the 34-year-old forward decided to play internationally, signing with the Sichuan team in the Chinese Women’s Basketball Association (WCBA) for the 2025-26 season. Howard herself confirmed the news and documented her travels and team support from China on Instagram.

The WCBA season runs from November 30th, 2025, to April 25th, 2026, meaning Howard will be overseas when the WNBA free agency opens in January. This isn’t her first stint in China, as she previously played for Xinjiang during the 2018-19 season. The news was first brought to light by Athlon Sports on November 25, 2025.

Fan Take: Natasha Howard’s return and success with the Fever highlight the impact a seasoned star can have on a team’s championship aspirations. Her international move also underscores the growing global opportunities for WNBA players, signaling a broader reach and influence of women’s basketball worldwide.
