Liverpool suffered a shocking defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield in the Premier League.
The defending champions have continued their dismal run this season, with the Merseyside club currently languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
They have lost six of their last seven league games, a loss usually experienced by teams on the brink of relegation.
Nothing is going well with Arne Slot at the moment. New players are struggling, established players are unable to prove themselves, and the season is on the brink of collapse early on.
There are understandable questions about the attackers, including Alexander Isaac and Mohamed Salah. But more than that, their defense is a big concern.
Ibrahima Konate’s contract issue is attracting attention
Ibrahima Konate is currently a hot topic. Not only is his form a concern for the Reds, but contract issues could also be affecting his game.
The defender is yet to sign a new contract at Anfield, and with his contract expiring in the summer, things are heading in an unknown direction with Real Madrid interested.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the contract issues between Konate and Liverpool.
He said on the Here We Go podcast:
“Look at Konate. What we can say is that Liverpool and Konate’s agent continue to be in direct contact. So the conversations are ongoing.”
“Liverpool have made an offer to Konate. So basically there is a proposal on the table to extend his contract in order to sign a new contract with Liverpool.”
“Negotiations are ongoing. It is now up to Konate to decide whether he wants to stay at the club or start a new chapter and perhaps leave England and try something different.”
“We do know about Real Madrid’s interest. Real Madrid remain interested in Konate, but Liverpool have put their proposal on the table, so now it’s up to the player to decide what he wants to do.”
Liverpool are working towards keeping Konate
Konate is a mainstay of Liverpool’s defense and his partnership with Virgil van Dijk has done wonders for the club.
However, the uncertainty over his future is having a negative impact on his team and individual performance.
The sooner his future is resolved, the better it will be for him and the team.
If the Reds are serious about challenging for the top, they cannot afford to make any more mistakes this season, and Konate will likely play a key role in achieving that goal.
