On Tuesday, Nov. 25, Delta Downs hosted a special afternoon racing event, highlighted by the $100,000 My Trusty Cat race for 2-year-old fillies over 7.5 furlongs. Although Brad Cox’s Kontiki was the favorite, it was Actis, trained by Tom Amoss and ridden by top jockey Vicente Delcid, who dominated the race.

Actis had a quick start but dropped back from the pace set by Hurricane Kate, who led early with splits of 23.18 seconds for the first quarter mile and 47.68 seconds at the half. While Not a Lady and Miss Metoyer initially challenged the leader, Actis surged from the middle of the field, closing rapidly on the frontrunners.

In the final stretch, Delcid pushed Actis into the lead with one furlong remaining, securing a decisive 4 3/4 length victory over Not a Lady. Rizzafena finished third, nearly four lengths behind the runner-up.

Owned by Joel Politi, Actis completed the race in 1:34.24 under clear skies on Delta Downs’ fast track. This win marked Delcid’s third victory out of four races on the day.

Actis, a 2-year-old chestnut filly bred in Kentucky by Phil and Judy Needham of Lantern Hill Farm LLC, is sired by Hard Spun out of Mr. Greeley’s mare Miss Relentless. She was purchased for $150,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Sale. With her second career win in six starts, Actis earned $60,000, bringing her total earnings to $95,800.

Betting returns for Actis stood at $8.60 to win, $4.80 to place, and $3.60 to show. Not a Lady paid $8.60 and $6.40 for place and show, while Rizzafena returned $18 for showing.
