Sebastian Fandora vs. Keith Thurman Clash Delayed After Training Camp Hand Injury

Premier Boxing Champions announced on Friday that its pay-per-view event scheduled for October 25 in Las Vegas, featuring WBC junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora against former welterweight champ Keith Thurman, has been postponed. The organization confirmed reports from Mike Coppinger of The Ring that Fundora, nicknamed “The Towering Inferno,” injured his hand while sparring, forcing him to withdraw. The show, originally set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, will be rescheduled for a later date.

Fundora, standing 6-foot-5½ with a record of 23-1-1 and 15 knockouts, had been having a strong year in one of boxing’s toughest divisions. After missing most of 2024, he made a notable return in March, quickly defeating Choder Booker before giving up his WBO title to face Tim Tszyu in a brutal rematch that ended with Tszyu retiring after the seventh round.

This injury is another hurdle for Thurman’s comeback after being out for years due to injury; he was slated to fight in March 2024 but pulled out, allowing Fundora to move from undercard to main event contender. Thurman, who turns 37 in November, has fought just twice in six years, including a 2022 victory over Mario Barrios after losing his welterweight title to Manny Pacquiao in 2019.

The co-main event, a 130-pound title bout between WBC champion Oshakie Foster and two-division king Stephen Fulton Jr., also set for October 25 on Prime Video PPV, has been postponed. Initially, this fight was planned for an August 16 event that instead was expected to feature a Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr. rematch, which never came to fruition.

Fan Take: This postponement is a significant setback for boxing fans eagerly anticipating high-stakes matchups in key divisions. With Fundora and Thurman both on comebacks, the delay leaves a void in what could have been an electrifying night, highlighting the unpredictable challenges fighters face and the sport’s need for resilience and patience.
