According to Diario AS, Manchester United are leading the race to sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.

Ruben Amorim and Man United’s recruitment team are looking to sign a new midfielder next year.

It remains to be seen whether they will aim to sign him in the January transfer window or wait until the summer of 2026.

Signing a midfielder is a priority at Old Trafford. After failing to sign Carlos Baleva from Brighton last summer, the Red Devils’ need for a new midfielder is growing given his performances this season.

Over-reliance on Bruno Fernandes and the aging Casemiro is a problem that Amorim is looking to address in the market.

The Manchester United manager needs a younger, more athletic and energetic presence in his team’s midfield.

The Premier League giants are always rumored to be looking to sign a new midfielder. Players such as Elliott Anderson (Nottingham Forest) and Joao Gomez (Wolves) have also attracted the attention of the Red Devils.

Gallagher has been linked with a move away from Spain after falling out of favor with Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, with reports suggesting the Premier League club could sign him on a £50m deal.

Gallagher, who has previously played in the Premier League with Chelsea and Crystal Palace, is a player highly regarded by United and his past experience in the league makes him even more appealing.

The English midfielder is known for his work rate, passing and midfield organization, which is what United are currently looking for in the market.

With his playing time at Atlético limited, the midfielder would be open to returning to the Premier League to revive his career.

United’s lack of quality in midfield was once again evident in their recent defeat to Everton at Old Trafford, where they were unable to break down an Everton side who played with 10 men for the majority of the game.
