Manny Pacquiao Eyes January Showdown with Rolando “Laurie” Romero, Advisor Confirms

Manny Pacquiao might soon be stepping back into the boxing ring, with plans to face Rolando “Rolly” Romero in January, as shared by his longtime advisor. Following his recent comeback fight with WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, Pacquiao is eager for another match. Sean Gibbons, Pacquiao’s advisor, told ESPN that a bout with Romero is a top priority, noting that although Pacquiao wanted to fight again before the end of the year, the timing wasn’t right. He believes the best moment to announce Pacquiao’s return is in January, with Romero as the ideal opponent.

Sources confirm that negotiations for this January fight have already begun. Pacquiao, who returned to boxing in July after retiring for four years, is 46 years old and holds a record of 62-8-3 with 39 knockouts. He exceeded expectations by drawing against Barrios, becoming the oldest welterweight champion contender, though the match ended in a majority draw, with Barrios retaining his title.

Romero, with a record of 17-2 and 13 knockouts, stands to gain significantly from Pacquiao’s high profile. Romero is coming off a knockout loss to Gervonta “Tank” Davis. If the match happens, Pacquiao would be 47 years old and Romero 30. This fight could be a compelling clash of experience versus youth in the welterweight division.

Fan Take: This potential matchup is exciting for fight fans as it pits a seasoned legend against a younger, rising contender, promising to bring both skill and intensity to the ring. Pacquiao’s return represents a nostalgic moment and a chance to witness one of boxing’s greats test his limits once more, adding anticipation and drama to the sport’s future.
