Mbappé Urges Madrid Stars to Stand Up for Alonso

Kylian Mbappé emphasized the need for Real Madrid players to “support” coach Xabi Alonso following their thrilling 4-3 victory over Olympiakos in the Champions League. Midfielder Eduardo Camavinga echoed this sentiment, urging the team to “assist” the coach amid mounting pressure due to recent performances.

Alonso has faced scrutiny after failing to secure a win in three consecutive matches, raising concerns about his rapport with key players like Vinicius Junior, who has been benched four times this season. Despite these tensions, Mbappé maintained that the team and coaching staff are “unified,” notably highlighting a moment of celebration between Vinicius and Alonso on the field at Karaiskakis Stadium after a stellar performance, in which Mbappé scored four goals, including a rapid hat-trick in just seven minutes.

“I know there’s a lot of chatter externally. Playing for Real Madrid attracts attention, but we need to protect our players, coaches, and staff,” Mbappé stated. “Ultimately, we’re all in this together.”

Before this match, Madrid had suffered a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, along with a goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano and a 2-2 result against Elche, with Mbappé not finding the net in those games. “Winning again was crucial,” he remarked. “It’s tough for a team like ours to go three games without a win. We recognize that improvements are necessary… We’re not opposed to outside opinions; we’re focused and united, knowing the fans support us.”

Camavinga also expressed solidarity with Alonso, saying, “I’ll do everything I can to help the coach. We need to concentrate on our team mentality and keep progressing.” With this victory, Madrid has now accumulated 12 points and sits in fifth place in the Champions League, with a looming match against Manchester City on December 10th.

“We are pleased,” confirmed midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni. “Winning this match was vital for our chances of advancing. We must continue moving forward; it won’t always be perfect, but it’s great to come away with three points.”

Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer fans as it highlights the critical dynamics within a top club facing challenges. The support for Alonso from players signifies a commitment to collective strength, which could ultimately shift their season and influence the competitive landscape in European soccer.
