Leicester have had a dismal return to the Championship so far, sitting 16th in the table after 18 games. Ten years after their historic Premier League win, the Foxes are just five points away from making the play-offs, but that feels like a long way off at the moment.
Marti Sifuentes was tasked with getting Leicester back into the Premier League after last season’s relegation, but so far he has fallen far short of expectations. As a result, he is thought to be at risk of being sacked, and if he is, he would become the third player to be sacked at the King Power Stadium in just over a year.
Despite Sifuentes still being in charge, Leicester have already begun the search for a new manager and appear to have settled on favorite candidate Michael Carrick.
Leicester replace Marti Cifuentes with Michael Carrick
According to talkSPORT (via Foxes of Leicester), Carrick is the frontrunner to become Leicester manager if Sifuentes is sacked. The former Middlesbrough head coach, who was recently linked with a move to Wolves prior to Rob Edwards’ appointment, is currently unemployed and could be ready to start as soon as possible, which would be an attractive prospect for the club’s hierarchy.
Is Michael Carrick the man to save Leicester’s season?
Carrick had an excellent spell at Middlesbrough before being sacked in June. He has led the Teesside club to victory in 46% of their matches and given the track record he has shown in the Championship over the past couple of years, he would be a very capable candidate for Leicester to appoint. For now, he’s just a candidate, with Cifuentes still at the helm.
