Mark Gacom Gets the Call-Up: New York Islanders Bring Him Back to the Roster

The New York Islanders have officially called up forward Mark Gacom from their AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Islanders. Although Gacom did not play in the Islanders’ November 30th game against the Washington Capitals due to recent back-to-back games with Bridgeport, he is expected to see NHL ice time soon, especially with Kyle Palmieri sidelined for the rest of the season.

This season, Gacom has contributed four goals and eight points over 15 AHL games, but has yet to make an impact in his single NHL appearance. At 26 years old, Gacom has accumulated 165 AHL games with the Abbotsford Canucks and Islanders, tallying 25 goals and 62 points. His NHL experience includes 40 games—all with the Islanders—where he has scored eight goals and recorded nine points.

Originally from Woburn, Massachusetts, Gacom began his professional career with the Canucks in 2022 after playing four years at the University of Connecticut, where he notched 46 points in 124 games.

Fan Take: This move is significant for Islanders fans as it highlights the team’s effort to fill the gap left by Palmieri’s injury with promising talent from their AHL roster. It also reflects the continuous development pipeline in hockey, showing how young players can step up to the NHL stage and potentially shape the future of the sport.
