  • Newcastle forward aims to move in January
  • Why Newcastle should sell William Osla
        • As great as Thiau: Newcastle star now one of the ‘best’ players in the PL

Newcastle United ended their long wait for an away win in the Premier League this season with a thumping 4-1 victory over Everton at Hill Dickinson on Saturday.

Eddie Howe will have been delighted with his team’s presence in the final third, with Malik Thiau scoring twice either side of goals from Nick Woltemade and Lewis Miley.

Voltemede has scored five goals in the Premier League this season since arriving from Stuttgart for £69m in the summer transfer window to replace Alexander Isak.

However, the Germany international’s impressive form was not good news for everyone at St James’ Park. This meant that the other forwards in the team had limited playing opportunities.

Newcastle forward aims to move in January

Woltemade is the Magpies’ clear first choice No. 9, as evidenced by his starting 10 out of 10 games in the Premier League, which leaves him with another player to consider for his future at the club.

Newcastle United centre-forward William Osla “wants to leave” St James’ Park in the January transfer window in search of regular first-team football, German outlet BILD reports via Newcastle World.

The newspaper reports that Eintracht Frankfurt, who were interested in him in the summer, remain interested in a potential deal to take him from the Magpies for the second half of the season.

Newcastle World report that Frankfurt came close to signing the Danish player permanently for £30 million in the summer, but pursued a loan move at the last minute, leading to negotiations breaking down.

The paper added that the move could be completed in January for a fee of £30 million, matching that offer, and that the PIF must move now to sign the forward as the German side are prepared to put such a sum on the table again.

Why Newcastle should sell William Osla

Osla is currently out with an ankle injury, but is clearly a talented player who could become a key player for the Magpies in the future. According to Sofascore, he has scored three goals in just 370 minutes this season, including one against Liverpool in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old Danish marksman has the majority of his career left to grow and improve, but when and where he will develop is a question because he needs to play games to develop.

Woltemade is just a year older than Osla and Newcastle have Yoan Ouissa due to return from injury, so I don’t see a short-term path for him to become Howe’s first choice.

Where would Osla rank on Newcastle’s record turnover?

As you can see from the table above, selling the 22-year-old to Frankfurt and other teams in January for £30 million made the youngster one of the club’s most expensive sales ever, with only three players having been sold for more.

Osla was once described by former teammate Curtis Davies as being like a “poor man’s Haaland” due to his physical strength in the number nine role, and the way he pulled it together to score against Liverpool showed signs of that.

However, due to Woltemade and Wissa, he is unlikely to get the time on the pitch he needs to fulfill his potential at Newcastle, which may be why he now wants to leave the club in January.

PIF and Howe should stay out of his way as selling him for a potential fee of £30m could be the best outcome for everyone involved. Osla could pursue regular football and find a new home, while the Magpies could gain funding to strengthen their squad elsewhere.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United are on the verge of a superstar.

Therefore, PIF should let the Danish striker go when the January transfer window opens, as it could be the right decision for the club and the player if Frankfurt makes a big offer for him.
